DECEMBER 2012
Rolled into Exmouth at the beginning of Dec and booked into the Big 4 park , one of several in town.
At this time of year it is quite windy almost every day especially
afternoons, temp is mid 30's, not to many travelers left in town.
Blue worked here in the seventies at the Kailis prawning facility which
we were able to take a nostalgic look at. The town is very popular with
tourists and grey nomads, many come for the southern winter and stay
4-5 months. There is a new marina in town with a canal development
attached. Blocks on the canals are expensive but selling and being
built on.
Exmouth town is on the eastern side of north west cape and the western
side of Exmouth Gulf not far from the northern tip of the cape.

Vlaming head Lighthouse restored recently by locals.
Had the 100th anniversary celebration while we were there.
If you are into light houses check this out Light house

Vlaming head radar tower remnant from WW2, the sand bags behind are the originals
and are heritage listed !!

Looking to the tip of North West Cape from the Light house.
There
is a sealed road around the cape and down the western side for about
60K's into Ningaloo national park. There are a number of basic camp sites down
this coast which has the famous Ningaloo reef system just off shore.
The snorkeling is fantastic and fishing is allowed in some locations. Whale sharks winter months
We moved over to this area and selected a spot in a camp called Mesa,
it had some shelter from the wind and shade, just a short walk to the
beach and fishing allowed. we stayed here for a week, perfect.

Back to Exmouth for a few days and then to Coral Bay 150K's south.
Coral bay is a popular tourist spot, quite a small village in a very
attractive location. We will spend Xmas here and avoid being on the
roads during the chaos.
Days are spent trying to catch a fish, snorkeling, swimming, observing
the comings and goings around us. We are advised the park will be full
over xmas and the new year, we were lucky to arrive when a cancellation
had been received and we filled the spot.
Wendy has mastered the Gas oven in the van (had electric at house) and
is producing very yummy pies, , Rum balls, slices and yesterday a
magnificent soft succulent fruit cake with the remainder of the rum.
These are strictly rationed with evening coffee and card game.
This is our path to the beach just a few steps from the van
